Dead Can Dance

Last night I went to the Dead Can Dance show at Marymoor Park in Redmond. Yes, half the people there were wearing black, and I'm sure all my friends were in there somewhere. I have to confess two things: 1) I'm a latecomer to DCD fandom (as I am to so many things), and 2) I probably haven"t been to nearly as many live shows as even the average person there.

That said, DCD is the most polished pop live act I've ever heard. They sounded fantastic. I caught my mouth hanging open a few times.

They did play material from their new album, which comes out on the 14th, says KEXP. Pretty good, and in the same ethereal, Near Eastern-inspired vein as their earlier material; it reminded me of Sky Cries Mary in their more accessible moments.

Those of you who've been fans longer than I have know that DCD broke up because they hated each other. I was close enough to look for evidence of that, but none was obvious to me. They seemed to enjoy themselves as long as they were facing the audience. Brendan Perry seemed to be the one in charge; Lisa Gerard didn't speak the entire time.

After watching her sing, Lisa is now a candidate for my #3 straight girl crush, after Kate Winslet and [livejournal.com profile] cupcake_goth.

APARTMENT IN SEATTLE! Therefore, a request for help moving.

My fourteen-year exile from Seattle will end one week from today: I just signed the lease on my new apartment in more-or-less Phinney. The exact address will follow shortly in a friends-locked post, but let's just say it's three blocks from Green Lake as the crow flies, and I have a stop for the 358 bus about 40' from my front door. $850/mo. including water/sewer/garbage & parking, 1 BR, dishwasher, laundry in complex, bike storage, hardwood floors, a short walk to the Green Lake PCC. A steep but not too long walk to Red Mill burgers; the Wendling will love that. A not-too-bad bus ride to work. A quick trip to the Greenwood Goth colony.

My own bathroom. No housemates. O frabjous day!

I'd love to be able to move myself, but with a queen size futon couch and a full size bed, both with frames, m'boy and I can't do it alone. I need one or preferably two strapping people, gender unimportant, to help me move. What's in it for you? Eats, drinks, and the pleasure of my company*.

There will be a house warming once I get the place furnished and everyone's back from Burning Man. That's looking like September 8th or 15th. I promise you'll know shortly after I do.

I'm thinking of calling it the Lake Place.

*That isn't necessarily a euphemism for anything.
