I'm not really a teenager, I just feel like one.
I went to see Cut Copy at Q last night, but I bailed at 2315 despite the non-suckiness of the music. Our esteemed Ozzie headliners didn't take the stage until 0030, so I definitely made the right decision. I slept today until 0850. Yeah, I knew trying to go to a show the night after the Big Marketing Conference probably wasn't going to happen, but band! With groove!
Some words about Q: they've put up a prominent, lovely projected sign telling homophobes & transphobes to GTFO, but the place still freaks me out just a bit. You can reserve tables. The staff wears uniforms. The decor, the sound, and to a large extent the clientelle are oh so pretty, pricey, and het, not necessarily respectively. I don't feel unwelcome or scared, just out of place. I'm pretty sure looking just like the other women wouldn't help that feeling. Never mind the new Hill not having any space for queers; it doesn't even have space for "at all unusual" or "below the 90th percentile nationally for household income".
Oh: Aspiring Ex is getting all kinds of media attention from this piece in the LA Times. It's been picked up by the Chicago Tribune, the Boston Globe, a couple of smaller papers, and she's read her essay aloud for - get this - the BBC. This looks like a big and much-needed break for her, and I'm happy to see her get it. The better she does, the less she needs my support.
