adventures in preventive medicine

I haven't written in a few days not because I was in a funk or especially busy. I waited because I wanted to have a complete story to tell you. It's about COVID-19 vaccines. Plural.

I got my Johnson & Johnson shot on April 12th. But with the advent of the more transmissible delta variant, I couldn't help but notice out there on the intertubes that there was some evidence that getting vaccines by two different manufacturers offers more protection against variants. If I remember correctly that especially applies if one of those vaccines is J&J.

I even did the responsible thing and asked Dr. Gaydude. He said, in essence, do it.

So I made an appointment on Wednesday for that very same day at a Walgreen's within bicycling distance of the Devil Girl Pad. I showed up early, but I made one mistake: I told the pharmacist that I'd already had J&J. He noped out on me, saying they didn't have "protocol" for that, and making a snide remark about Dr. Gaydude.

Naturally, I made an appointment for Friday evening at the Broadway QFC. I did not make the same mistake twice. I now have the first shot of Pfizer in me, and have to tell you that the effects are almost unnoticeable, especially after the two-day ordeal that was J&J.

One thing that's worthy of note was that the pharmacy at QFC took my insurance info and said that the vaccine was covered. I thought that was unnecessary.

Why, you may wonder, am I going to all this trouble? You make have noticed that I'm an extrovert. I need to be around people for my own mental health. And I'm not about to sacrifice my physical health for that if I can help it.

Stay tuned for an entry about my peregrinations around Capitol Hill yesterday, for which the vaccine was an excuse.

I've wondered about getting a 2nd shot, but I haven't heard anything about it yet. I'm kind of in a wait and see holding pattern...
