I just checked the status of my tax refund because it's supposed to be almost $11K. The web site is telling me that I'm not going to get a refund and instead owe $659.

Bullshit.

The alimony rules haven't changed since last year: it's still deductible as long as your divorce agreement was signed before 2018. Mine was signed on Dec. 30, 2015. Suing the federal government wasn't on my bingo card for 2021, but if they fuck this up I'm definitely game.

I think I have a possible explanation for why the IRS thinks I owe them. I did indeed file Schedule 1, the form that says how much alimony I paid. I even made a copy of it and filed it like a good, paranoid girl.

My copy is missing my [ETA: name and] Social Security number. In the likely event that it was separated from the rest of my return, they'd never know who to attribute it to.

Dammit! So what do I do about this? Please don't make me file another 1040X.
