happy consumer, sad boy & Nibs

Mm, Pfaffaffaffaffaff. Mm, hardware firewalls with VPN pass through. It beats my software firewall soundly. (The hardware firewall is actually part of a wireless router. Note the foreshadowing.)

Took yesterday off because it's spring break and the Wendling's home. Despite the gorgeous weather we had to skip the cherry trees for now because he's sick. Aww. Appalling timing.

Chronic illness is getting Nibs down worse than it has in years. I wish I could go "Zoot!" and undepress her. I never know what to do around depressed people. Come on, rituximab.

gah. Nibs was doing really well for a spell, wasn't she? I hope she pulls out of this quickly for her sake and yours.

never know what to do around depressed people.

IME, just be there, be gentle, be supportive, but not pushy. When I get spells like that (from my chronic stuff), it's just a matter of getting by day to day, but anything that can help me forget about pain a little is a good thing. When people help me out with little things (without letting me know they are helping - when I'm depressed I hate feeling like a burden on others), it makes a big difference, mainly because the kindness of others still lifts my spirits even if it doesn't show.

Just be there for her when you can, but not in her face, you know? She'll know you're there and it *will* make a difference. If there's any little thing you know she likes, treat her to it (but not big things). I know that helps a lot too.

I hope she's feeling more herself soon!!!!

Well, since she was dignosed with rheumatoid arthritis in October of 2002, probably the best time she had was just after she got on Humira (adalimumab) in late 2003. The trouble was, Humira stopped working, probably because she developed antibodies to it. Her RA has never been completely under control the way it is with most patients most of the time these days. Ten hours of sleep a day and thirty waking hours a week on the couch has been the norm pretty much since she came down with it.

You're a woman with a plan. Thanks!

I'm sorry hon. For some reason I thought you guys had had some measure of success with a more recent med.
My memory is horrible, and I easily confuse things about the SOs of friends on LJ.

Lots of love to you guys.

Um not necessarily good, but it's getting gray and may rain here.

Well, I can't go for cherries until Saturday anyway. I just hope the blossoms don't blow off in the next couple of days.

Totally off subject, but that's a fantastic icon in the original post.

Thanks. All credit to [livejournal.com profile] robotangel, who took that picture.

Pfaffaffaffaffaff sounds like the sound effect one might make when *ahem* fantasizing about one's new sewing machine. Or something.

Bad Vix! Bad! I meant for it to be the sound of the machine running.
