Thanksgiving hits

A couple of new (to me) recipes selected & prepared by Nibs, of course, kicked a lot of butt:
  1. meringued pecans - Cracklike. I suspect that this would be a prime PMS food.
  2. apple & quince tart
I almost took for granted the celery root slaw, roasted sunchokes, mashed spuds with shallots, and cranberry sauce with o.j. & sherry.

Wow, that is some fancy decadent foodz! :-)

Nibs really is quite the cook. She's constantly reading food magazines & cookbooks in bed, scouting new recipes.

What the heck is a sunchoke? My new exotic food this week has been mustard greens.

Sunchoke = Jerusalem artichoke, i.e. sunflower tuber.

The root of a sunflower plant? I have never heard of this. We got nothing like that here.
Maybe I'll try that with cattail roots.

Yup, the root of a sunflower plant. But surely you've heard of Jerusalem artichokes. Sunchoke is just a shorter & more accurate name for them.

As for cattails, I await your report with... keen interest.

Nope. No sunchokes in my area. Which is odd since they are supposed to be from Massachusetts.

from Cattail roots, Cattail hearts, Cattail-on-the-cob, and Cattail pollen."
