I gave in to my urges and was social at Nerdvana to meet a MOOer visiting from a town far away: [livejournal.com profile] maribou, as she claims, does not have antlers, but she does have thousands of much shorter projections on her scalp.

Had a date with Her Nibs for the first time in many weeks, and it didn't suck. First outdoor dinner of the year. Ah. I'm still wondering if the acting in "The Man Without a Past" is so deadpan because director Aki Kaurismaki is a wise guy, or because Finns are not normal.

Time to sneak into Seattle and shop for Mother's Day presents.

I vote for "Finns are not normal." I base this judgment entirely on badly dubbed and edited Russo-Finnish films based on folklore.

Finns are not normal

My (now-dead) uncle married a Finn; for a year, she had a live-in relative, a nephew who was on the lamb for eco-terrorism (technically, he's a Lapp, and his senior class in high school blew up a dam worksite because the resulting lake would've interfered with reindeer migratory paths).

Tommi was very odd. My aunt is very odd.

Finns are freaks.

We love them. :)

Finns are definitely not american normal

My friend Tapani (Finnish) was very reserved, and even somewhat shy. He had a very incredibly dry sense of humor and said EVERYTHING deadpan. On the bright side, that meant that it was VERY EASY for him to whip off some Zingers that got you on the back slide. ;) He was funny, just not emotive in the american conventional sense. It is entirely possible that he was extremely emotive for a Finn. *shrug* But, by our standards...

hey baby
