Nun partakes of downmarket decadence, does not get whiplash.

By way of a morale event for work, I played Whirlyball yesterday afternoon in (Where else?) Lynwood. Whirlyball is basically basketball from bumper cars, only instead of a basketball you're using a whiffleball and scoops. It was way more fun than I expected it to be.

The hardest part is working the scoop: accurate passing & shooting, especially from a bumper car, aren't as easy as they look. Many of us opted for the running game: get the ball and drive it to the goal. At the end of our time, our group's champions took on the Whirlyball employees, who showed us all how it's done, namely not much bumping and long passes & shots that found their mark.

Oh yeah: out of seven teams, mine came in fourth. True to company form, we started getting competitive, even the women - all two of us. My lower body is a little sore; I must have been moving around more than I thought.

We had a whirlyball franchise in the '80's and I LOVED it. I thought that was one of the coolest inventions ever, and would do it again in a heartbeat. No idea they still existed, so next time I'm in Seattle, you, me, whoever else we can scrap up, we're totally going.
