dream stairs

Do you repeatedly encounter in your dreams the same places your waking self knows you've never been to? And do they involve a lot of stairs up into an attic or down into a basement? I dreamt last night that I was at Re-bar*, only it didn't look like Re-bar and there was a dungeon in the basement. Yes, that kind of dungeon. I'd dreamt of it before.

Fun fact: I didn't live in a place with a basement or attic until I was 19. I can't help but wonder if they have a stronger hold on my imagination than they do for people who grew up with them.

*Re-bar was, until a few months ago, a beloved kinda-gay bar in Seattle that also played host to a lot of theater. Nirvana got themselves kicked out of there in 1990.

Oh, yeah! There are a number of places I've dreamed about quite a few times, sometimes for decades. And there are a few places that are real places I've been, but are warped out of shape by my ever fucked up subconscious. There is a dream Sandpoint, a dream Los Angeles... what's funny is that they are warped the same way every time. Like, in dream Sandpoint, there are extra blocks inserted into the core area, where certain businesses sit. It's almost like my subconscious took a map of town, sliced it up a bit, and pulled the pieces apart and added shit in between. And, yeah, there are frequently stairs that frustrate the hell out of me- because they stop after a couple of flights and just disappear into the ceiling (or floor, when they go below the ground floor).

I have landscape dreams where i can see the landscape inspired by real locations but they are completely fictitious. Broadly the dreams are set are outdoors (some urban landscapes), so instead of stairs, mountains and hills. My mind certainly thinks it's been to the locations over and over, but i don't remember dreams clearly so it's hard to know.

Yeah, that's a thing. I also have fictional versions of various houses I've lived in, like the old Murkworks that somehow had a big solarium on it, or the current house which has a long corridor going off to the north to a bunch more rooms, things like that.
