plants

Wasabia japonica -- maybe my least characteristic impulse purchase to date, on Vashon
Eugenia garyophyllata -- cloves, whose oil is a noticeable ingredient in a hippy but surprisingly effective herbicide that I sprayed on...
Ranunculus repens -- fucking creeping buttercup,
Taraxacum officinale -- devil spawn dandelion, and
Arabidopsis thaliana -- those damn things with the tiny white flowers that shoot seeds in your eyes when you pull them, like something out of the old Star Trek

Wow, you bought a wasabi plant? "That's HOT."

You just throw the rhizomes in the blender, the man said. The leaves are way tasty, too.

"Throw the rhizomes in the blender" sounds dancey.

You were on Vashon, and you didn't tell me!?!?!

Now I'm terribly curious who you bought the wasabi from, so that I can go buy some - at a discount if it's Pete.

D'oh! I was with Her Nibs, the Wendling, and a couple of friends of ours who live in Seattle, one of whom is four years old. We just had a picnic at Ober Park and herded the kids out of the blackberries for an hour. There will be a next time, though.

I got the wasabi from a Japanese-looking guy at the farmers' market. I didn't get his name.
