The Wendling rode a bike today for the first time, no training wheels, no grown-ups steadying him. I wasn't there and it was only for a second, but this is another Big Deal. You see, he asked me to take the training wheels off two years ago and then he got rid of them. He's been afraid to try it for most of the last two years. I barely managed to get him on the bike. The special ed P.E. teacher at school tried, but she wasn't much more successful than I was. Her Nibs ended up hiring somebody to come here and work with him, and that did the trick.
It took him nearly two years longer than it took me. I had siblings whom I wanted to follow around, but you could say that the Wendling had the neighbor boys. I guess I have no choice but to chalk the delay up to Aspieness.
