Nun gets her house groove on.
Aug. 9th, 2009 05:45 pmIn addition to a Usual Haunt (Yay seeing the rarely seen!) I popped around the corner for TRUST, a newish techno night.
The sound: First Church of House, Orthodox, with Riz & Sun Tzu Sound (the break beat guys?!). I loved it, of course. I was one of the first ones dancing, and stayed until it became too crowded to dance.
The venue: Sole Repair, which is a beautiful, well-designed space, but one of the DJs said over the PA that they'll be moving to Electric Tea Garden, formerly OSeaO. ETG has a lot of intimate charm, which I love for funky little underground nights, but it's also smaller than Sole Repair, with low-hanging beams, a wooden floor springy enough to mess up turntables, and poor ventilation.

For the first time I noticed CDJs that had lights on them and touch controls made to look and act like a turntable playing at LP speed. Good UI design, that. I wonder how long those have been around.
The peeps: The crowd was way friendly; I got to meet Riz's new hubby. They were also better dressed than your usual gang of house heads. Brace yourself: I found myself tempted by two or three small, light, and shiny examples to get non-goth clubwear. I must buy only sensible clothes for a year.
