sistawendy: me in my nun costume with my duster cross, looking hopeful (hopeful nun)
The office of Dr. Bowers, a.k.a. Dr. Snip, has gotten my application and deposit. The nice lady gave me my preferred date because the woman who had it is a "serial canceller". (?!) She said the date is "solid" but said I shouldn't buy my ticket until it's formally confirmed two months prior. Still, whew!
Last night I went to my first PFLAG meeting. I didn't do it because I felt in need of a support group; I did it because I want to volunteer as a speaker for them, and their requirement is that I go to a couple of meetings first.

(Yeah, I had trouble shutting up. Surprise.)

Most of the people there were parents of gay people, and there was (inevitably, it seems) one other trans woman there. There were, however, several gay high school & college kids. I was struck by the amount of gay culture there is in high schools today. Sure, the gay students association at a school in the suburbs may still be small and its members don't make much noise, but it exists, officially even. I'd never heard of the Day of Silence.

Useful piece of info: one of the college kids - in a FCKH8 t-shirt - is involved in Equal Rights Washington. He said something about gay marriage being put to a vote in WA next year. I'm having trouble finding out exactly what he meant; it doesn't appear to be a ballot initiative. How did I miss that? Now I have to go back just to see him.
