how to engage the Wendling
Jun. 2nd, 2012 11:10 pmI took the Wendling to the Maker Fair at the Seattle Center. He got to see large, wheeled Burning Man projects and other fun large objects, but they didn't catch his attention as much as the robot sumo & soccer at the Center House, which weren't part of the Maker Fair. I knew I was going to see people I knew, namely
gfish, but I didn't expect to see
niac,
domestinatrix, and
intrepid_reason. Yay!
All the parts on display at the maker fair made me wish for more time for circumflatulation. Someday, my precious, someday.
Tonight, m'boy & I watched the 1951 original version of The Day the Earth Stood Still. Despite having a story and a message instead of action and slick effects, the Wendling got into it. Score one for the nun.
The DVD features included a contemporaneous newsreel. (I had to explain to my son what one was.) Ah, the fifties, when nobody was afraid of child molesters, anticommunism had a snarky tang, the government and SCIENCE could be trusted, the news media were less subtle about telling you what to think, and nobody had yet gotten the memo that women don't like being objectified. And you can bet your Netflix queue that I pointed all that out to my son.
Oh: I went out to the Merc with most of my Burning Man camp mates last night. It's always a good time, and this time I may have dating progress to show for it. We shall see. SFDs: Fluevog Konas, black fence net hose, leather pencil skirt, black satin underbust that I made but used to belong to
gement, and my high-collared sleeveless top.
