more on Mom
Dec. 11th, 2017 01:10 pmGood: Mom is talking to me, if crankily. At my request, she forwarded me some emails from the putative Publishers Clearing House - after I spent fifteen minutes teaching her how to do that. She used to know how to do that all by herself.
Weird: The emails appear to be legitimate, if sleazy-looking. There's nothing funny in the SMTP headers or the HTML, and they're hosted by AWS, like pretty much everybody else. They're essentially advertising a kind of lottery. I've forwarded them on to Good Sister.
Why are these emails legit? Because they don't say she has won; they say she could win. I think Mom is failing at reading comprehension as she is at so many other things lately.
Bad: Mom seems to think she's getting gifts when she's really buying things. I'm still not clear about what happened when because she got scammed a few months ago. Remember, none of the three sisters are on the ground there anymore and our main source of information is increasingly addled, hence my request for the emails.
