nibbles with the former Nibs
Dec. 31st, 2017 08:11 pmEx had proposed Chinese eats on Christmas eve - a fine Jewish tradition - but the snow intervened, so we made up for it with 'Murrican eats for lunch at the Redwing Cafe. (Don't let my description scare you. It's really quite good. I had the tofu sandwich.)
Her health is doing better than usual, but our son is doing even worse at adulting than I thought. She had a warning for me about career management: an age above fifty makes job hunting much harder. She didn't need to tell me, but I could stand to be better prepared for certain eventualities. In my defense the recent internal move I made was a good one.
I'm a little weirded out by how much I enjoy these infrequent get-togethers. I'm still amazed and amused by how much she schmoozes the wait staff and people at neighboring tables, and how she can't seem to not feed me at every opportunity. I had to tell her that I have a leather corset to fit into in a few weeks, so there's only so much food I can take from her.
Things I did this year, in no particular order:
