sistawendy: me in a tie die dress with a flirty look on my face (flirty hippy)
This is the third relatively quiet, booze-free weekend in a row for me, but that didn't stop me from getting out of my apartment.

Due to a wild hair I went to the U District Street Fair for the first time since the Wendling was under 10, I think. It wasn't as big or busy as I've seen it in the past; the partial lack of sun may explain that. But it was otherwise pretty much as ever. I will confess to buying a black & blue chain mail cuff bracelet. You know I'm wearing it for Pride.

But what I really wanted to go to was a fundraiser at Dozer's Warehouse near Beacon Hill station. Dozer's has a leaky roof and 108 murals spray-painted on the walls, plus a few projection and sculpture installations. I got to crawl into an inflated plastic bubble onto which dendrites were projected. Without further ado, pics taken with permission:

Oh, and the tunes were good, too, because the organizer was Mollie Bryan, and old (i.e. slightly younger than I am) raver and artist herself. I'd only heard of Dozer's a few weeks ago. To my astonishment, Mollie said that's true of her too, and her art scene credentials are sterling.

So of course Dozer's is about to meet a sad end because Seattle: its whole block is about to get redeveloped. Sure, we need more housing, but do we have to screw artists over and over again to build it? This kind of thing is a major reason why I and many others live in big cities.
