bandana-free bike joy
Apr. 28th, 2021 09:16 amThe CDC has backed off its recommendation of wearing a mask outdoors if you're not in a crowd. I seized upon that to walk out my front door for my usual bike ride without a bandana on my face*. I could smell the cottonwoods from what must have been at least a block away. I wore shades because a) they're mighty handy when you're bombing downhill eastbound in the morning and b) if you're not wearing a mask, they don't fog up.
It was the best damn bike ride in a year. I threw the horns at the repaving crew, who are making excellent progress. One of them nodded back.
I still keep a KN-95 in my purse in case I stop along the way for one reason** or another***.
*There have been a few times when I just plain forgot a bandana and didn't remember until I was blocks from home, down a slope and across a big arterial. Today, however, was not one of those times.
**Baked goods at Herkimer or Coyle's.
***A blown tube, heaven forbid.
