the struggle for audio
Dec. 7th, 2022 01:21 pmAfter more than two and a half years of being used every workday, my AirPod batteries have degraded to the point where the can't hold enough charge for a (mercifully rare) two-hour meeting. That's unacceptable. I decided I was tired of Bluetooth and batteries, so I needed to plug my wired headphones in.
Problem: the headphones have an Apple Lightning connector. The only available port on my work machine (or so I thought – foreshadowing!) is USB-2. So I ordered dongles: male USB-2 to female USB-C, then male USB-C to female Lightning. I got that all plugged in yesterday. No funcionó. It was then that I noticed the good old 3.5mm jack on the other side of the 'pooter.
But do those support a mic, and can I get the appropriate wired headphones? The answer turns out to be yes. So I'm no longer one of the cool kids.
If anyone needs one of the aforementioned dongles, I have spares, boy howdy. Even with buying those dongles, I'm still at under half the price of new, bottom-of-the-line AirPods. Sheesh.
