More seriously, though, at least from the operant understanding of identity and personal history I've been living within, integration with the past is always hard, and I don't think that'll change any time soon. The near past is easy, of course, but there are a thousand conversations that I'll always negotiate my interactions with very carefully -- not opting out, but, excepting small circle of people, engaging in at the remove of one or more layers of mediation with differing degrees of intentionality, transparency, and honesty.
