Knowledge from my sleep med days, for what its worth... lower temps do help you sleep. It's not personal preference, it's science. Your core temp lowers when your brain is preparing your body to sleep, because sleep is when your brain is most active and it concentrates its energy there. Lowering the temps in your environment (comfortably) help this process naturally. Waking up sweaty can be due to any number of things (age, hormones, alcohol consumption/blood sugar fluctuation, food, etc).
