This morning I punctured my second bike tube in a month; I'm grateful that I noticed it a quarter of the way through my ride and not halfway. This is unusual for me because I'm not an absolute bicycle maniac like certain of you freaks. I think this happened because of one of:
- Chance. It's been years since something like this happened, though.
- Broken glass in the street. I see some every once in a while because I live in a big city, but I haven't noticed any more lately than usual. I would, however, expect more people to be outdoors than usual because the weather has been so wonderful. And even the trash who leave broken glass in the street appreciate a nice day.
- Construction more or less forcing me onto the outer Green Lake trail, which is paved with fine gravel. I mean, yay curb cuts and storm drains, but I don't enjoy dodging traffic cones, heavy equipment, cops, and cars all at the same time, so I hit the outer trail. If there were anything nasty hidden amongst the gravel, e.g. construction debris, I'd never spot it, especially with the morning sun in my eyes. (The city long since banned bikes from the paved inner trail because of COVID-19.)
