And what is the Vespertine Ball, you ask? It's the winter solstice equivalent of Portland's Vampire Masquerade Ball, which in decent years happens in the late spring. Both have been organized for years by the amazing and lovely Lady Raven.
I kind of have a history with the VMB: I met Temptress, my first honest-to-goodness queer girlfriend, at the event in '14. Plus, my dear friend
cupcake_goth has been the MC for quite a while. Most of the years it's happened, maybe?
But back to this year! No, we couldn't in good conscience gather in our finery even if the state of Oregon allowed it, so Lady Raven did a yeoman's job of moving everything online. The "entrance room" feature the aforementioned vampire witch queen explaining how to work the stuff. There was a "dance floor" featuring stompy goodness. There was a small vendors room that was not without its temptations. And then there was the room that alternated between chill and performances.
As Lady Raven pointed out, the pandemic has hit performers hard. They gave as good as they got for our event, though: upside-down archery with feet, fire spinning in the snow, and four-ball contact juggling. I have to admit I'd never seen any of that before, and it was beautifully done under some trying circumstances.
Goths spotted:
trystbat,
morthael, and
icprncs. Good to see everyone, and see you looking so fabulous! And it's a minor miracle that I'm not hung over.
Shallow fashion details: see my rebirthday, only with evening-appropriate makeup.
