Funny Lady had a new job to celebrate, so she took me to one of our favorite places, where we're regular if not frequent guests: Shiro's Sushi. The choice of reservation time was either 1715 or 2030, so we picked the latter. They're doing omakase – i.e. chef's choice – only, and because it's Shiro's, the food's amazing, varied, and sometimes unexpected without the pretension & downright weirdness of a certain other high-end sushi joint I could name. There were, of course, tales of London.

Funny Lady was a few minutes late as ever. I told the hostess that half the party was on time. I discovered that FL uses a "Starbucks name" at restaurants and of course coffee joints because her real first name is unusual enough that it gets badly misheard. Her last name, however, is both common and famous and they still got it wrong. But they let us in the door to eat all the sushi and drink all the hot sake. Happiness.

It seemed all too brief. We were the last customers out the door after 2200.

Tonight I'm supposed to see Lady T, just the two of us at her place. I'm low on sleep. There's probably more than the usual amount of tea in my very near future.
