Evil Sister is visiting Mom. Once again, Mom didn't recognize ES's elder daughter, niece E, the one who's done so much for Mom. She's been the boots on the ground for the United Sister Front. E isn't exactly surprised; we've all seen this coming from a long way off.
I have a photo of Mom trying to read a card sideways. She refused to open some cards, says ES, and she seemed more interested in watching the weather report on TV than on interacting with her family members.
I'm... not sure how I feel about not being there. Well, mainly I feel guilty about the relay my sisters have been running. But it sure looks as if there's no point in my being there per se. If she doesn't recognize E, who she's seen more recently and whose appearance hasn't changed radically in recent years, it's likely she wouldn't recognize me or want to talk to me. In other words, I have no plans to join the relay.
Mom's gone in every sense that really matters. My sisters haven't said exactly that, but I can tell that's what they're feeling too, even over text messages. Even Evil Sister, who was justifiably unhappy with how Mom treated her and her husband in the years just before they moved away from Florida five years ago, and who to some extent peaced out afterward, seems shaken.
