Quilt binding tape appears to make acceptable stay case tape. It's wide enough for the 1/2" stays that I prefer. This saves me a lot of time and burned fingers from cutting and pressing my own stay cases. I think I have a fighting chance of finishing my next corset within ten days despite a visit from the Nibsmother next week. Yeah, I know there's stay case tape that's made out of twill, but it isn't as widely available as quilt binding tape and I've never needed the extra strength in the past.

The ends will poke out sooner using the quilting tape - voice of experience, as I used to use it in my bodices. I've started using two layers of duck cloth for lining, and just sewing boning channels in.

Well, we'll see. My basic black satin underbust uses those handmade stay cases made from fashion fabric. I've had one (1/4" and therefore narrow and pokey) stay wear through after three years of pretty frequent wear. That's the corset I'm on my third lace with. :D

The quilting tape is bias cut, but at least it's two layers. I'm willing to give it a shot, and if it wears out, I've sewn it to the right side of the lining, so it'd be easy to replace them with the twill.

I'll second this..when I make my corsets, I take the inner lining of canvas and decide how many bones I'll have, what pattern and then lay them out, make my sewing lines and then sew the channels for them right in. It's easier on the fingers, machine, etc. And this way, you know how they'll look. Just sew up the bottom, sew the top and then add lining and outer fabric. Viola, corset. I like leaving the top open for a period busk..meaning it only closes in the back...I like the bow...and then sewing a nice binding across the top to close it of...whether or not I've used a modern busk or a period busk.
Good luck with it.
