review: DJ Eddie & Squid Leader
Jul. 8th, 2006 10:17 amThis was the sort of night when I dash from the house in sheer irritation with it all, forgetting to take any makeup on a warm night and forgetting socks under my fishnets. Fortunately, old-timer DJ Eddie was techie, sinister, and highly infectious. My question was, "Where is everybody?" The apparently popular laptopper Squid Leader was... all right, but didn't really seem to go anywhere or have any structure. Yeah, I can hear some of saying that all techno is like that, but it isn't.
CHAC attracts people who dress and dance hippie. OK, fire performers (Womanipura -- aiee, pun!) and the Buddhist symbols on the stage lend it that vibe, but not necessarily the music. As a tie-dye-wearing wannabe Burner, this is fine with me. I'll take hippies over thugs, drunks, or druggies any day.
