sistawendy: a cartoon of me in club clothes (dolly)
(How's that for a title?)

You know those horrible fundraisers sick people have to have in this messed-up country? Well, local techno promoter Anton Bomb has been fighting cancer for a while, so a ton - literally well over two thousand pounds of humans - of DJs et al. got together and threw a party to raise cash for him at Love City Love, which used to be the Electric Tea Garden space (and before that OSeaO) at 1400ish* E Pike in Seattle.

Now, I admit to not knowing Anton that well, but the resurrection of a beloved old venue plus a local DJ lineup to end all local DJ lineups was more than enough to get me out on a Thursday night. LCL is an art and events space a la the old Consolidated Works, I guess, and it has three rooms to ETG's one. They put the bleepiest, edgiest stuff in the basement, natch. There were plexiglass windows in the basement ceiling through which folks in the main room and basement could wave at each other. It had just the right mix of rough edges and glitz that makes it just right for a night like that. It was like the better nights at OSeaO/ETG, minus the occasional bro and that low beam in the middle of the ceiling.

And mad props to the ladies who braved the cold and dressed up on a weeknight. I didn't, quite so much; I was Action Goth.

Music? Right on, duh, including new-to-me actual queer lady Mz Artiz. I somehow missed Riz, though.

I ran into promoter & DJ Michael Manahan and I asked him about something I remembered from ETG: one of the side rooms in ETG had a beautiful mosaic floor in a style that I can only describe as fin-de-siècle hippy. That section of floor has been entirely removed so that LCL has a high ceiling. I asked Manahan what had happened to the floor. The good news is that the artists who made it had been alerted to the danger it was in, extracted the thing intact despite its bulk and weight, and put it in storage. I think it belongs in MOHAI**.

ETA: Another thing I asked Manahan about was the building's neighbors. The management of a recent condo building across the street and down the block had called the cops on ETG multiple times, which may have contributed to its closure, because Seattle. Manahan says that LCL is unusually strict about events ending at 0200, which hardcore techno fans surely consider a bummer but may just save the venue. I also noticed a new, small, round sign on the corner of LCL proudly proclaiming membership in a Capitol Hill neighborhood association; that can't hurt, either.

*ETG was at 1402 E Pike. LCL is, I think, at 1400. Back in the ETG days, 1400 was the American Artificial Limb Co., part of whose high-relief lettering remains, painted over, on the side of the building, and ETG was directly above it. LCL now occupies both spaces, but some of what was ETG is not open to the public.
**MOHAI is the Museum Of History And Industry, Seattle's local history museum.

Taller Woman has asked if she could bring a friend to what I'd thought was a date next weekend. Le sigh. Oh, and both of them have issues with the proposed venue.

And a certain lady who now lives far away and who I always look forward to seeing, but isn't a dating prospect, will not be returning over the holidays because she has pneumonia.

Yes, the Tickler will be moving right around New Year's, but at least that's been planned for weeks if not months.

Is the universe telling me to meet moar wimmins? Probably, but all I want to do in the cold and dark is hibernate in my nice new bed.

Speaking of beds, I sawed the old frame into dumpster-sized pieces and got rid of it that way. No one in their right mind would have taken it, and I wouldn't have wished it on them. Last up: fix my floor. Yeah, sawing that thing up felt good.
