sistawendy: a cartoon of me in club clothes (dolly)
Went to the cozy, at-home wedding of [livejournal.com profile] deadrose and [livejournal.com profile] luchog. Strange as it may seem to say about somebody who was very much part of the original punk scene around here, the bride was to-die-for cute. I wanted to take her home. [livejournal.com profile] sanobar cooked some dynamite food, and the kilted groomsmen served up the choice mead & dry lambic. Seldom have I fit in with a group better while en femme, for which I can thank [livejournal.com profile] chiaroscura, [livejournal.com profile] midnytetragedy, and [livejournal.com profile] m_cobweb. It was too bad I didn't know in advance that the (How to put this charitably?) less unorthodox relatives were leaving early, because I'd already committed to a) go home and at least say goodnight to m'boy and b) go to...

...decompression at my carpool buddies' place. Yes, that's what Burners call post-Burn parties. As the wedding was with beer & mead, so the CBs are with distilled stuff. It seemed almost like a violation to open a bottle of cognac that was covered with playa dust. The CBs are enablers when it comes to fantasies of future )'(, and I love them for it.

On a more sobering note, one of my son's teachers called us this morning to tell us that the Wendling isn't keeping up with his in-class reading. He asked us to buy the book and work with him at home. Naturally, we now have the book. Nibs is livid that the school district won't provide aide time for him; when she asked the teacher about it on the phone he just laughed bitterly. The Wendling's concentration has been nonexistent ever since school started if not before. Even at home he can't seem to write a sentence without repeating or omitting words. Nibs & I are at a bit of a loss about it. Mom wants to medicate the kid, but to me that's a very last resort. Besides, I've never heard anyone respectable talk about medicating Aspies, and I would know. What gives me hope is that, as Nibs reminds me, this sort of thing has been cyclical in the past.

Yeah, many doctors, counselors etc., insisted on medicating Emrys. Not one of the assorted medications did any good at all. After the last time, when a doctor tried to put him on an atypical antipsychotic just to improve his sleep, we've just refused.

My other son, who was rediagnosed as an Aspie a few years back, did have good results with an antidepressant for afew months, but that was because he was actually undergoing a major depressive episode.
