I wore green velvet to Green Velvet last night at Neumo's. Sure, GV threw down a solid groove with plenty of interesting and three-dimensional sounds, but I guess it was a little too... techie and atonal for me. With all due respect for GV's innovation past and present, I was hoping for something more organic.
The person who delivered the pah-tay to me was Seattle's very own Nordic Soul, organizer of the Decibal Festival. Usually I hear him playing glitchy & cerebral yet still fun stuff, but last night was all about the happiness. He better be playing the next Pacific Science Center party because I missed him a couple of weeks ago at one.
Honorable mentions: Recess and the Red Pony, the second of whom is new to me and (gasp!) a girl. All four of these folks were using laptops either predominantly or exclusively.
