My Brunette Sister's husband D. had what was either a heart or gall bladder or something else attack two days ago. While the ambulance was pulling out of their driveway, it was - wait for it - hit by a drunk driver. The EMTs scrambled to make sure one of theirs wasn't pinned up against the ambulance. D told my sister to get back in the house, because the drunk driver was belligerent as he tried to get away. Four police cars blocking the road later, though, they got their man. D spent an inconclusive evening in the hospital, but I'm happy to say he's up & about.

I've sometimes thought of Brunette Sister as unlucky, but who knew that was contagious? She was worried sick, naturally. I should remind her that she has a sibling three hours behind her who's a bit of a night owl anyway, so late night phone calls are actually welcome.
