sistawendy: a cartoon of me in club clothes (dolly)
Things that made me happy today:
  • Rekkids! They were waiting for me when I got home. To wit, In Sides by Orbital; Northern Exposure Vol. 2, West Coast Edition by Sasha & John Digweed; and San Francisco Sessions Vol. 3 by Garth.
  • Nukable, buckwheat-lined mittens. They're technically mittens, but I usually put them on my feet as I did today.
  • Finding out that liberal, repeated application of rubbing alcohol will indeed prevent my pores from getting infected after electrolysis.

My electro tech does use witch hazel right at the end of a session, but it wasn't enough the first time.

hi, good morning and all that. ^_^

i'm old school (class of 78 and all that), deeply woodworked, kind of twitchy about talking openly in googleable spaces, so tend to resort to paraphrase sometimes if that's okay. only needed to say that once. ^_^

people going through now swear miracles upon a topical anaesthetic EMLA cream, which i gather is available over the counter at some pharmacies. somebody local to you will know where, i am sure.

i noticed that caffeine taken before made me a lot jumpier, so i avoided it until my two-hour zappies were finished. three a week, all semester long. pharmacist at school scribed me for Empracet, which is acetaminophen 100 mg/ codeine 60 mg, PRN. I'd take two of them with a cup of peppermint tea before taking the trolley to go get zappy. (oh, how i wish they had invented laser zappy back then: this was electricity and needles)

witch hazel takes at least ++three++ good sluices of the face to do the job. get some washcloths, use a clean one each day, and launder them in hot water. boiling them on the stove pays off.

trying really hard to wash your hands well before touching your face really helps -- i always found it hardest about 36 hours after each zappy. where it most matters to keep things clean is along the bottom of one's jawline, where the hairs grow in various higgledy-piggledy directions and their tracks are more easily infected.

hope this helps, lots of rough stuff in this is front-loaded and it does get far better as time goes on.

good luck, heya!

Elane,
June 1978 London (UK) and never regretting

edited to add, on a brighter note: my electrologist, in Vancouver, was good enough that there was no scarring (always a risk along the upper lip in particular). i have never needed to wear any makeup, which is fortunate because i hate the stuff and regard it as a waste of good skin.

further edit: friended you because your cultural writing is interesting; see that we have a few names on common on our lj|reading-lists, which is usually a positive sign.
