- The Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine, especially if you have a boy with you. This is the oldest European settlement in the U.S., founded in 1565. The current stone fortress dates from the late 17th century, and was never taken by force. Cannons and bastions and turrets, oh my!
- Anastasia State Park, just a few miles south of St. Augustine. Miles of wide, white, condo-free beaches. On a 75-degree cloudless, breezy December day, there's no better place to be. Thanks to Strawberry Blond Sister for telling us about it.
