As often as I notice that my Puppigrrl is becoming a doddering old lady of a doggy, she can still muster considerable power and grace for jumping on the bed. Yes, I know you're not supposed to allow them up there for reasons of behavior, but she's so old and stiff now that a) she barely has the energy to misbehave, b) the floor is uncomfortable for her, and c) she won't sleep on her doggy bed in the closet anymore because she apparently wants to be near us all the time now that her ears are failing.

Aw. Well, I can see why you allow this 'breach of etiquette' for Her Puppiness. :D What a face...

She's lost not one bit of her charisma over the years. There are dogs who love balls and those who love other dogs. Mine loves people.

:)

I am beloved of the people-loving variety, having been raised w/ 1 pair of German Shepherds, and then another pair. They were all rather territorial, and loved only Their People...and each other, usually. :)

When we were growing up, wasn't it perfectly acceptable to let dogs on the bed if you didn't mind any mess they might cause? The only reason I didn't do that as a kid is that I didn't want them waking me up all night--my parents didn't have a problem with the idea, and in fact let one of theirs sleep up there with them now without any discernable behavior issues on her part. Dog training goes through fads too (paging Dr. Spock), and I'm not sure the data is in as to which methods are actually best for them.

My mom's dalmation thought he was a lap dog. He'd sit on her lap in a chair. He'd ride in the car with her everywhere. He'd also sleep on their Captain's Bed water bed - which was fairly tall. When he got old he was finally unable to keep jumping up on that bed and it was a sad, sad, day for my mother...
