But first, a note about my location. I agreed to crash here for the night because Nibs needed the car at 9:00 for pilates.

Good: Went to an Innerflight night at Lo Fi and got in early enough to get in free. The music was something I'd never heard before: five and occasionally six or seven people with two laptops, two keyboards, MIDI controllers, mixers, drum pads, mikes with effects, and what have you, all jamming continuously and occasionally getting up for drinks, etc. I liked it!

Bad: Shaven-headed dude asks, "Are you wearing a costume?"
"No, I'm not," I say, and I walk away quickly in what I hope was both a feminine and dignified manner. I was wearing the dress seen in the user pic. Yes, this kind of thing happens to [livejournal.com profile] cupcake_goth all the time, but it's different when you're trans and not looking particularly goth.

Good: The wife of one of the band members, if I may call them that, had a nice long chat with me about transition stuff. She recognized me from another Innerflight show couple of years ago. (Does that happen to trans people more than most? I'm guessing it does.) She asked me a lot of questions, and restored my faith in humanity. She's cute, too.

Bad: The joint next door to Lo Fi has an outdoor seating area that's a few feet above the sidewalk in places. I think I got duded as I walked to my car. I'm pretty good at not reacting, though.

There does, in fact, come a point where it a) very rarely happens and b) if it does, it doesn't register, because your brain simply does not associate it with something that refers to you.

This insight, of course, only recently gained; somewhere since 1978 I stopped caring much, anyway, and maybe that's the gem of truth: if it's outside your envelope of care and concern, it's no longer relevant.

**hugs** as always.

That's when some boy thinks he'll be clever by loudly saying, "Dude! What's up?" or something similar.
