OK, either major bra manufacturers or Fred Meyer don't think 38A is a size you can make money from. So, 36A. Le sigh. Nibs taught me a new term: "chicken cutlets".

Speaking of Nibs, I rented season 1, disc 1 of The L Word recently because, among other reasons, I've never seen any of it. Nibs asked, "You're not going to turn into a big lesbian on me, are you?" We'll see, Nibs. We'll see.

Also speaking of Nibs, she's asked me to start staying over at the Abbey two nights a week instead of the previous one. Yes, the dog does get everyone up early, but 1) she wanted me out of the house as much as I did, 2) sooner or later we'll have to split up completely, and 3) I just don't wanna. Says she, she doesn't get any sleep at night because of her meds, and a giant, rambunctious puppy doesn't help. I'm sure both of those are true. The thing is, her first instinct is still to call me: the other day she asked me to do her Costco run because she can't lift a flat of bottled water. I think we'll be talking about this in couples counselling.

This is my surprised face.

None of my parents and sisters ever divorced, so this is my first experience with somebody who had to re-learn independence.

I was thinking of some of the discussions from months ago, where she seemed to expect you'd be on hand for all household chores. Some people cherish their dependence more than others.

If you go down a band size, go up a cup size (and vice versa). Never ideal, but better...

I heard about chicken cutlets on Jerseylicious!

Yeah, I have to agree on the couples counseling issue. That'd be a good place to broach the topic.

I don't think I've ever seen a 38A in brick and mortar stores, but One Hanes Place (http://www.onehanesplace.com) offers a few reasonably-priced 38A bras. When I've ordered bras from them in the past, I've found the best strategy is to order several different models and sizes, try them on, and then return the ones that don't fit.

(This is reminding me that I really need to get refitted. Bleh.)

Well, I'm hoping I won't be an A cup for too terribly long, and the 36's do seem tolerable, at least in comparison to the sports bras that I've been wearing for the last six months.

Maybe I am the dissenter here, but I think that you and Nibs may be getting divorced, but are still going to be friends and co-parents. So if she asks for you to do something, ask is it something you would do for a close friend? If so, it is reasonable to do. She has a lot of physical challenges to cope with that make her life extra hard. I have similar issues so I do have to ask people for help even though I hate hate hate it.

I'm trying to think of how many close friends at whose houses I would spend two nights a week and do chores the following morning. Occasionally, yes, but not every week for the next five years, which is what she's asking.

Thinkin' more about the costco run rather than overnights... esp since your kid is likely to be eating a lot of what's to be picked up at the 'co. Just sayin' -- but my advice is worth what you pay for it.

You know you can get band-extenders, right?

Date: 2010-10-21 06:28 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] sistawendy.livejournal.com
Actually no, I didn't. Good to know!

Last I looked, Nordstrom had them.

Go to Jo-Ann Fabrics for them -- that's where they are the cheapest. They come in one-hook, two-hook and three-hook styles. The one-hook ones are unstable and you'll really want to baste one end of them down to the band.

I'll also be the dissenter. Help with water? Yes. More nights? No.

That being said, if she can't lift it she needs to not get it. Brita and a Kleen Kanteen.

She's solved the problem by buying a carbonating thingy. She can make her own fizzy water, and it should pay for itself in a matter of months.

The Soda Stream is one of the best investments I have made in a long time. Mine paid for itself within a month.

To clarify: The water thing is something you do for friends or for family, provided it's an occasional thing, or if it is a regular thing that there is trade off.

Date: 2010-10-21 07:25 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] sistawendy.livejournal.com
I'm really not sure how occasional this is or how much tradeoff there is. I'm basically living alone, so I don't need that many Costco-sized packages of things. Besides, stores have staff for helping disabled people.

Hah! I have tried to get people to help me at Costco when pregnant and carrying toddler or injured and I have had luck about oh.... 1/5 times.
