My son just told me he doesn't want to go to the Pride picnic the day before the parade because he's afraid people will think he's gay. Where to start? I don't think he groks the concept of "ally" just yet.

And in separate but related news, Abbey neighbor L tells me she doesn't want to hear any more of my gay dating gossip. I guess I shouldn't have told her about the Young Lady in the Bowler. Le sigh.

Um. Specifically your gay dating gossip?

If it's discomfort with you as no longer half of a married couple and she didn't want to hear about you dating qua dating, I could kind of appreciate that. But wow.

Re son, I'm very sorry. Housemate's son (who is 8 and also on the spectrum) was loudly and combatively saying that no, he was very glad he wasn't a girl because girls were awful and quantitatively different and objectively not as good and no one should want to be one and so on.

When asked to come up with an occupation women couldn't do, he picked pro wrestler, and his reaction when this was contradicted was... not rational.

All society's dirty laundry gets aired in the bluntness of an inflexibly minded kid.
