update: Zen and the art of vacuum cleaner maintenance

Remember when I had the dubious privilege to smell the belt smoking in my vacuum cleaner? I asked Uncle Google to help me find the right belt for my make & model, and I found it (pack of 2 for $4) at one of the larger Ace Hardware stores. Bridle Trails has them, downtown didn't, Roosevelt might. Thirty minutes of undignified struggle later, the vacuum that had been sadly disassembled on my living room floor all week is as good as new.

Moral: Every few months, pull my hairs out of the brush roller so it keeps on rollin'. Hat tip to leenerella for pointing out that replacing belts yourself isn't a big deal.
