If you're going to stay home on Valentine's Day, you could do far, far worse than watching American Splendor, the trueish story of how neurotic pessimist and seeming loser Harvey Pekar found a career, love, and family almost in spite of himself. Yeah, I see a lot of myself in him, but unlike him I wouldn't be caught dead out of costume on Halloween. It's even a good date movie.
