sistawendy: me in my suffraget costume raising a finger in front of the Vogue (oh yeah)
I've started sleeping better lately. I put it down to one of two things:
  1. Lower temperatures. I'm not sure about this because I still wake up sweaty sometimes.
  2. Less light hitting my eyeballs. Here above 47°N the annual swings in day length are dramatic compared to, for example, Florida. I've tried to compensate for that for years by putting black foam board in my bedroom window, but I can still see light around the edge. I did get a leather mask (ahem) at the Pride street fair, but I only recently got around to altering it so that it's comfortable enough to sleep in. By the way, the selling point for the mask was that it's unlined and therefore easier to clean. Made by Asylum Leathers.

Good sleep is a good thing!

I used to be more of a night owl than a morning person, but that has changed. Partly because Debbie is an early bird, partly because I now start work at 06:00. The late evening summer light that I used to love so much, now I grumble about "It's too light to go to sleep!"

There's a good two-hour gap for me between how much sleep I tend to get in the summer versus in the winter. Another reason I like those nicely balanced spring and autumn days.

Knowledge from my sleep med days, for what its worth... lower temps do help you sleep. It's not personal preference, it's science. Your core temp lowers when your brain is preparing your body to sleep, because sleep is when your brain is most active and it concentrates its energy there. Lowering the temps in your environment (comfortably) help this process naturally. Waking up sweaty can be due to any number of things (age, hormones, alcohol consumption/blood sugar fluctuation, food, etc).

Either way, sleeping better is a good thing!
