Good: My drain is out. I no longer look like a cyborg.
Bad: I still have to wrap my head day & night for another week, and then at night for about a month thereafter.
Good: No infection! Dr. Faceknife removed all of the sutures...
Bad: ...but he added one or two. I have to get it taken out in six days.
Good: No more need for iodine...
Bad: ...but I still need to clean my wound with vinegar & vaseline for another week.
Good: No more need to ice...
Bad: ...but it'll help get rid of my one bruise faster. I also need to sleep elevated for another week.
Good: I shouldn't take the antibiotics I picked up Thursday. The pharmacy screwed up the instructions, saying I should start 24 hours after my sutures out instead of ending then. So, in the interest of not creating superbugs, Dr. Faceknife said to forget it. He said that opinion is divided on whether, if you get IV antibiotics during the procedure as I did, the post-op short course that I already took is even necessary.
Good: My face looks pretty good even with the swelling & bruising. Dr. Faceknife says it'll keep changing for another few months. (?!) That's right: I'm (nearly) a new 'n improved nun. Look out, ladies.

This recovery has been a lot less painful than I expected, but in terms of time & inconvenience it's still considerable. Surgery on that part of my face is more complicated, more expensive, more time-consuming to recover from, and I'm not sure it would make me look less dude-like enough to be worth it.
I'm not going to have the money until next year's tax refund at the earliest anyway, and by then I might have other plans for that cash. And all the traveling I've been doing in the last year has given me the bug: I've got Melbourne, London, and Tokyo on my travel to-do list for sure.
