Falling in with the Goths early this century had many salutary effects: they comprised the bulk of my ground crew for transition, and an awful lot of my wardrobe used to be theirs, cupcake_goth's in particular, including one brooch with deep violet sparkly things. I have one cameo brooch, two bird skull brooches, and one silver-and-white modern floral. I probably wouldn't have any if it hadn't been for the Goths.
The brooch in the photo for this entry is one that I borrowed from leenerella for the shoot she did that included that photo. Which reminds me, it's been five years and I should consider another shoot.
A favorite subject! Let's see, here are my current top ten electronica albums that I've heard, in no particular order:
Orbital, Orbital 2, affectionately known to fans as the brown album. It isn't as ambitious as In Sides, but with its classical-influenced 37-minute rock solid trance jam, it speaks to my heart like no other. Plus it has "Halcyon+On+On", which stands beautifully by itself.
John Digweed, Bedrock.
Underworld, 1992-2012 Anthology.
Daft Punk, Discovery. A majority of Daft Punk albums, it seems to me, are their way of paying homage: one to Kraftwerk, one to disco, one to butt rock. Discovery, despite the pun in its title, comes closest to them being themselves. It's also the most fun.
Mark Farina, San Francisco Sessions, Vol. 1. Yes, it's jazz-influenced house music. I have friends who hate jazz or hate house, and this album makes me pity them.
Depeche Mode, Music For the Masses. It kills me to have to pick a favorite album for Depeche Mode, though, because there are songs I love so much spread across so many.
Cut Copy, Free Your Mind. Blond Australian hippy disco masters.
Paul Oakenfold, Tranceport. This is how you really party like it's 1999.
Kraftwerk, Computer World. Maybe not seminal like the albums right before it, but warmer and more fun.
Aphex Twin, The Richard D. James Album. He's a wise guy, but he's a creative wise guy.
Honorable mentions: Simian Mobile Disco, Rabbit In the Moon.
I dislike curtains and would never spend money on them. I think they're dorky-looking dust magnets that don't block the light when needed. That was crankier either of us were expecting, but really, curtains are stinky.
If you view this page in my style, you will see a background of lovingly edited corset grommets on the left side. I used to make them. I still wear them, but not as often as I used to.
I have been carried by the Gulf Stream at my favorite beach on Earth,
Crescent Beach, FL. It took me at least ten years, though, to figure out
what was happening after I first noticed.
