To clean myself out for my colonoscopy, I was prescribed four liters of polyethylene glycol to drink, two the night before and two the morning of. The instructions clearly said that it should be mixed, refrigerated for several hours, and drunk cold.
Well, guess what drinking two liters of anything fridge temperature within a couple of hours does to you: it chills you right down. Even on an above-freezing night, I finally broke down and turned the baseboard heater on in my bedroom. That's the only way I stopped shivering in bed.
Seeing as how people don't usually get colonoscopies more than once a decade, I'll probably forget everything I've (re?)learned about them, but maybe you, dear reader, can benefit.
