hackfest (vs.) kid stuff
Dec. 29th, 2012 12:09 amStill hacking the bejeezus out of v2 of the Lambert House database and oh by the way web app. The hardest part of it so far has been dealing with the differences between MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server. The former doesn't cope very gracefully with syntax that's legal in the latter. I hate to say it, but Microsoft has better language designers working for them than the ones on the MySQL team.
I've been spending too much time on this and neglecting my son just a bit, now that he's staying with me until Sunday. (We're currently dogsitting for Nibs.) But he's a teenager, so not only doesn't mind; contact with him is actively detrimental to my cardiovascular and dental health.
But we have plans: the Museum of History and Industry tomorrow at the south end of Lake Union. He actually rejected a ferry trip in favor of MOHAI. That's m'boy.
Oh: m'boy got an X-Box for Chanukah. I set it up tonight. He seems distinctly underwhelmed. If he didn't look so much like me I swear he's the postman's child. There may need to be a Kinect for Fruit Ninja in the near future.
Speaking of underwhelmed, I finally saw Pee Wee's Big Adventure for the first time, and I subjected my son to it. I think I owe him an apology. Maybe I would have appreciated it more when it first came out - when I was a teenager.
