sistawendy: me in the Mercury's alley with the wind catching my hair (smoldering windblown Merc alley)
Still hacking the bejeezus out of v2 of the Lambert House database and oh by the way web app. The hardest part of it so far has been dealing with the differences between MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server. The former doesn't cope very gracefully with syntax that's legal in the latter. I hate to say it, but Microsoft has better language designers working for them than the ones on the MySQL team.

I've been spending too much time on this and neglecting my son just a bit, now that he's staying with me until Sunday. (We're currently dogsitting for Nibs.) But he's a teenager, so not only doesn't mind; contact with him is actively detrimental to my cardiovascular and dental health.

But we have plans: the Museum of History and Industry tomorrow at the south end of Lake Union. He actually rejected a ferry trip in favor of MOHAI. That's m'boy.

Oh: m'boy got an X-Box for Chanukah. I set it up tonight. He seems distinctly underwhelmed. If he didn't look so much like me I swear he's the postman's child. There may need to be a Kinect for Fruit Ninja in the near future.

Speaking of underwhelmed, I finally saw Pee Wee's Big Adventure for the first time, and I subjected my son to it. I think I owe him an apology. Maybe I would have appreciated it more when it first came out - when I was a teenager.

So I went to a game night at chez [livejournal.com profile] foxipher, thinking I'd let other people play while I socialized and did overdue important stuff on my laptop. But neau. I got my arm twisted by four tipsy people playing Cards Against Humanity, about which I'd heard huge buzz. Yeah, I'm probably the last one to know as usual, but it's huge fun. It may be better suited to drunk adults than sober ones, and it's definitely not suitable for children unless you want to scar them for life. I fantasize about playing it with my Republican former neighbors.

I did eventually get my important stuff done, I'll have you know. This morning.

Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] manintheboat for her copy of Katamari Damacy. Finally, a PS2 game that isn't insanely complicated that's Nibs-friendly. M'boy and I did indeed play it tonight. Yes, it's as awesome as so many of you said. I especially like the automatic handicapping, even if the King of All Cosmos did call my son weak.

And you know what? He's getting the hang of it. He even captured me once, but apparently by accident. Hand-eye coordination and small motor skills for the win!

A space mushroom. Only in a Japanese game or a head shop.
Tomorrow night's plan? Riz's 20th anniversary in Seattle at Re-bar.
