My son thinks the orange stringy stuff inside pumpkins is kelp.

My synagogue's chief rabbi's elder daughter is much better looking and better dressed than she needs to be.

Goth spotted in an unlikely place: the Bridle Trails Red Apple.

Paris Hilton has a perfume. I'm glad that ad was outside the bus and not inside.

A few hours after kvelling to [livejournal.com profile] liepa about how I hadn't changed a poopy diaper in a couple of weeks, he drops a load on me just minutes after peeing into the potty. That'll learn me. I'm glad I had the sense to put pull-ups on him at night.

Queen Esther looked smashing for Purim, of course, and didn't get any hassle from anybody despite losing several beads on the floor. We finally got the Wendling to wear his hamantaschen sandwich boards, but he couldn't be persuaded to go on the bima with the other kids. (Sorry I can't get at the one halfway decent picture just now.) I actually heard the Megillah in Hebrew and English for the first time. OK, maybe I heard the 60% of it that wasn't drowned out by groggers. I didn't expect to hear "Mi Kamocha Baelim Adonai?" to the tune of "This Land Is Your Land". The Sh'ma etc. were similarly sillified.

Much sleep has been had after a weird Monday night of either late-dog-running- or pseudoephedrine-induced insomnia. (Mental note: if I give Her Nibs her sleeping pills downstairs, make sure she doesn't crash on the couch.) The cough that wouldn't go away did. Buh-bye and good goddamn riddance.

I've been coughing myself (and occasionally Her Nibs) out of adequate sleep for most of the last week, but an angel named Maximum Strength Robitussin seems to have allowed me to be coherent this morning.

Saturday: chillin' with the MOOers at the Republic. Either I was out of it from the aforementioned cold, or they were all overcaffeinated. Still, we fulfilled our mission of achieving critical silliness mass.

Afterward, bopped over to the Merc for relaxation that I didn't realize I needed so badly until I got there. Said yeaux to my unpaid shrink [livejournal.com profile] euterpe35, sighed at [livejournal.com profile] bensprincess (How dare she look that good after having a baby?), and got spanked by Graves. That's what I get for wearing my latex LBD there.

Took Wendling to the Purim carnival, where the amplified music drove him to stick his fingers in his ears. He couldn't be cajoled into wearing the hamantaschen sandwich boards that Her Nibs made for him. Aww! He stuck around for 1.5 Hebrew National hot dogs, though. Tonight is grown-up Purim. [livejournal.com profile] staxxy, you'll be happy to know that I didn't have time for another corset. I found a 19th-century costume history that purports to show a Median woman. It's chronologically and geographically close and it's easy, so I'm going with it.

I was Art Nun with [livejournal.com profile] vixyish and [livejournal.com profile] eeyorerin at the Asian art museum. OK, I admit it: I wanted to see more Hello Kitty stuff and I went looking for (absent) Persian art for costume research, but it was still fun and educational. I want all their Chinese ceramics in my house, and an Edo period fireman's coat. They're purty. Vix and Erin twisted my arm (*snork*) into going to Uwajimaya, where I got squid processed into noodles; more on that after I eat them. I was about 40 minutes late home to a sick and annoyed Nibs, but at least I called first. They were out of Suupaa Remon Kyandi (for Her Nibs), akajiso musubi, and Korean spinach salad, but they had some rare 5-packs of instant tempura soba for the Wendling.

Thought for today: it's a shame to waste a good hair day on work.

Damnation, I'm spammy this morning. And that's without tea. I hope nobody minds.

I managed to finish a costume in under five (!) hours and wore it to [livejournal.com profile] loree's birthday party. I wish I could have stayed longer. Nerdvana parties are definitely worth cleaning the kitchen for. If I had godlike powers, I'd fill in Lake Washington and build an (earthquake-proofed) house there so I could a) get to and from Seattle faster and b) keep the Wendling in the same school district.

Her Nibs dragged me to one of her charity park cleanups again, and I actually had a good time. It was a gorgeous breezy, sunny day, I wasn't tired or hung over, and I had a gasoline-powered weed whacker and mufflers. Even better: the place was only ten blocks from me and it's going to be a new off-leash park. I now have sore arms and a slightly sunburnt scalp, but I don't mind.

Wendy's Seattle International Film Festival summary:

"War Live" -- Serbian, has many similarities to "Wag The Dog". Not awful, but I don't recommend it.
"Gigantic" -- documentary about They Might Be Giants. I loved it, but then I'm a huge fan.
"Men With Brooms" -- Canadian comedy about curling. Thoroughly disappointing.
"Secret Ballot" -- Iranian comedy about what happens when democracy meets poverty, etc. Well written, but slow. See it if you're in the mood.
