Good Sister is back on the ground, and the early morning transcontinental text messages have been flying. She says she has obtained Mom's consent to make GS the principal guardian. Good Sister, being a good sister, asked the other two of us if we wanted in on that hot, hot official guardian action. Evil Sister and I independently said, in essence, "We don't care. Just get it done."
Having Mom's consent is a big deal, if we can get it on paper. It should avoid a long, expensive legal battle. I still need to talk to GS about how we're handling our lack of proximity to Mom.
Work has been butt-flavored so far this week. Moral: don't get overly enamored of or habituated to one particular technology - in this case Redis - and then use it in cutely clever but nonintuitive ways that make disaster recovery hard. The two cardinal sins of programming are a) falling in love and b) disregarding the KISS rule. One of our dirty little secrets, from ourselves as well as from our non-programmer co-workers and customers, is that our jobs, done correctly, could be done by robot monkeys.
