You know how my primary care doctor was supposed to switch practices to one within walking distance of me right around now? Well, I just got word this morning that he's decided to quit medicine altogether.
This was rather sudden. His old practice, Capitol Hill Medical, says they're not accepting new patients, so they sent a list of other doctors who are accepting patients. CHM said, basically, call ASAP before those other practices fill up too. I picked one that's downtown but right on the bus line that I (used to) commute on.
Are they queer? Not that I know of. Are they competent with trans people and their characteristic medical issues? I sure hope so. I would hope CHM wouldn't do me dirty like that, but trans people can't take it for granted that any health care professional that they encounter will be, well, professional. My first appointment with them is in a couple of weeks.
Am I surprised that Dr. Gaydude has made a sudden exit? Yes and no. I've said here already that he hasn't been the same since he caught COVID-19 back in the spring of last year. I was looking forward to his explanation of why he was quitting CHM, which I'm now unlikely to ever hear. I suspect that there may have been some hard feelings.
Between finding out my vacations plans are saved and this, I'm having an eventful Wednesday. Even if things don't always come in threes, to quote the Tickler, shit comes in piles.

Me too
Date: 2021-07-30 12:45 pm (UTC)From:He was a bit young to be retiring, but not younger than I was when I took early retirement, so I can't really bitch much about that. I liked him as a doctor. I think he just couldn't cope with the pandemic (and, perhaps, losing patients to the virus) and decided it would be a good time to get out.
But at least he sold his practice to our new "regular" doctor, and I am glad to say that it was a very smooth transition, and I like the new doctor too.
And, at least once in the "regular" doctor's office, I was seen by a nurse practitioner instead of the doctor, as she was working with him for a while.
I despise shopping for new doctors.
Fortunately, for my diabetes, I go to an endocrinology group, one of the better regarded ones in the Atlanta area. I have a USUAL doctor there, but in a pinch could conceivably see someone else. In fact he inherited me from the first doctor I saw in that group, when that doctor retired, years ago.
And for my other thing, I go to an infectious disease (and travel medicine) group where, again, I have a regular doctor but can see a different one if necessary.
