A few weeks ago, Good Sister hired a "death doula". It's a ghastly term for a pretty good idea: someone to comfort Mom on her way out of this life. Since my sisters and I live so far away from Mom, I think the doula's services are valuable. She's also the one to whom I've been sending photos and cards to show to Mom.
Naturally, the doula reports back. In the latest one, Mom said, "I'm getting ready for eternity." Is it better that she knows that the end is nigh? If it lessens her suffering, yes.
And from the Dept. of Dark Humor, I just got several more padded mailers so I can send more photos. They're also good for mix discs.
