sistawendy: a cartoon of me saying "Praise Bob!" (prabob)
Her Nibs once again cooked a righteous dinner for four (including a cow orker of mine), and I washed some righteous dishes afterwards. This year's most unusual dish: Brussels sprouts with bacon & toasted hazel nuts. I'm the only one of us who likes Brussels sprouts, so I told the Nibbal Unit she didn't have to make them on my account, but apparently I don't understand foodie psychology. Thumbs up also to: parsnips & pears with lemon juice, and the mystery mashed potatoes.

Don De Dieu is mighty tasty brew, and being Canadian it packs a buzz.

Good Thanksgiving movie: Twightlight Samurai. Really. (We went a little bat guano at Scarecrow Video yesterday.) Basically, can a down-on-his-luck samurai in turbulent 1860s Japan make ends meet, find love, and raise his daughters before he either gets killed or the world changes out from under him? It's all about what matters.

The Wendling has watched way too much TV today. I refuse to feel guilty.

woah. brussel sprouts with bacon and hazelnuts?
oooooh my. I've just gorged on the most amazing meal EVER made by a genuine mom and an internationally trained chef....and that *still* sounds amazing.

I thought so, but it didn't really sway those who don't already like Brussels sprouts. On the other hand, there was so much food that maybe they just didn't get around to the sprouts.

I'll have to check out that movie.
We watched Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring -- it was VERY sad and rather confusing. I'm thinking Yojimbo, slated for tonight, will get the classical samurai feel back to the house.

Twilight Samurai = really excellent. One of my favorite things from SIFF this year. I really appreciated that it was quiet and specific in focus, without it getting too navel-gazing.

I'm not a Brussels-sprout fan, but that sounds kind of nifty (with the bacon removed for my vegetarian sensibilities). Toasted hazelnuts make most things better, and perhaps if the sprouts were shredded (I ran across a recipe last year that suggested that, to allow them to cook more quickly and bring out less of the sulfuric compounds), it would be quite delicious.

Yes, the sprouts were shredded. That I neglected to mention that shows you how much of a cook I am. :D
