I've had on my list of home improvements for a while a new office chair. My current one is an IKEA job with arms that don't adjust wrapped in yoga mats to compensate for my height, which isn't much less than 5'10" (177 cm). Sometimes my back isn't happy when I get up, but it's nowhere near as bad as the days before the yoga mats early in the pandemic.

I still have some of that tax refund. I hear that the Aeron by Herman Miller is the gold standard, but that's $700 used and twice as much new. I've sat in them – more than three years ago. So, dear readers, what say you? Which makes and models work for you? Is used a good deal? Edited to add: bonus points if you're near my height.

I have a Vertagear gaming chair, one of those racecar seats. It's very adjustable and supportive, I adore it. Feels like a hug. I'm 5'9". (They come in all black if you don't want a color.)

GamersNexus, who as a whole don't like gamer chairs, did a big ergo rundown a little over a year ago on their youtube channel. Based on their commentary and testing of several chairs, I got a Komene ergonomic office chair. Anna and Paul both got and liked the Autonomous ErgoChair, if I remember the model correctly. (Brand is definitely Autonomous, I checked Anna's chair.)

Huh, I apparently have that Herman Miller chair, third-hand. It's just fine, nothing special, tho' the fact that it's prob. 10 years old (really no idea) & still in near-perfect condition, well, I guess that's something for the durability.

The Hoopy Frood inherited an Aeron from a client, who went out of business. It was a nice chair, but it also fell apart in ways that a hella-expensive chair shouldn't. I didn't find it very comfortable, but I'm picky about my chairs. (I have one from staples, allegedly will support up to 400 lbs. I'm nowhere near it, but it's starting to do the slide downwards after about 2 years of use.)

I bought the wirecutter recommended chair by mail - https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-office-chair/ I work from home, and i will use that chair for many years. The configurability is so flexible, i was confident i could get it in a good configuration for me without trying it in advance.

It's also bloody heavy.

But i love it and haven't had any body aches for a very long time.

Probably not useful advice, as I'm considerably shorter than you, but I have one of these and quite like it.
